Tiara

Tiara is a TTRPG character played by Takanashi Kiara in Mythbreakers. She came to the town of Mythton with her pet owl Uhu to seek out different kinds of birds while defending herself from people who seek her phoenix pendant. Tiara is capable of speaking to birds and using firearms, but mostly in self-defense.

Appearance

Kiara revealed Tiara’s design on Twitter on the day of the first group session.

Tiara has yellow eyes and long white hair with several golden hairclips. She has two sets of black piercings: one set at the side of her ear and the other at her earlobe forming the shape of a double arrow.

Her outfit has a green-gray color scheme. While her arms and shoulders are protected by thick white sleeves with green accents, a skin tight gray suit covers the center of her body to the very top of her legs. She wears a body harness over her suit with a belt around her waist connected to two straps with a black and dark gray checkerboard pattern.

There are gray straps around her thighs, with one holding a holstered handgun and the other holding a small pouch with keychains. Tiara wears simple black boots and brown falconry gloves. Her knees have bandaids on them.

Personality

Tiara does not trust people very easily. She didn’t want to give her name when everyone met in The Homestead Bar, and only did so after everyone introduced themselves. Tiara doesn’t take kindly to people who hit on her or do their jobs poorly, and even records evidence to get them fired.

But Tiara is nice to those who treat birds kindly. For example, when Watoto fed Uhu a worm and got pecked, she offered to blow on his hand to alleviate the pain.

Abilities

Tiara has the ability to understand and speak to birds, and typically uses this to tell Uhu to perform tasks, track people, or find escape routes. She is strong enough to nearly single-handedly push a van half a mile. Though she doesn’t like to fight, as a hunter she received some training on firearms. And as a foreigner, she does not know the local language well so she often ends her sentences with “ara.”

Background

Tiara came to Mythton to find a specific breed of owl. After failing to bring her firearms through customs, and having burned through the last of her money, she settled in a dusty, tattered apartment with her old diary, her precious phoenix pendant, and her trusty owl Uhu.

One day, her landlord Edith banged on her door and asked for her rent, which was overdue. When Tiara said she didn’t have money, Edith offered her help to find a job and gave her some phone numbers. Tiara called one of them, a bird shop, and talked to a lady who was hard of hearing. She visited the store and impressed her so much by calming down all the chattering birds that she was offered a job for the night shift. To pass the time until then, Tiara went to the park. As she was taking photos of birds, she noticed a big snake on her foot and had Uhu drag it away from her.

She arrived for the night shift one minute late. Tiara took some time to check out all the birds, including a tiny, illegally detained eagle near the back of the store. Then at midnight, the janitor entered and introduced himself as Victor. Tiara realized that he didn’t do his job well, and decided to take a picture of him to get him fired. But after looking at the photo, she noticed that he looked sickly pale. Chalking it up to the dim lighting, she worked until she locked up at 2 AM.

On her way home, Tiara felt that she was being watched. After stepping on another snake, she made it to her apartment but still felt on edge. After writing in her diary, the exhaustion took over and she fell asleep. Tiara had a dream where she revisited a memory of someone giving her the phoenix pendant. That person told her it was very important and advised her to keep it with her at all times. Then she awoke to the sound of her birds screeching and found that Uhu and her pendant went missing. Oddly enough, there was no breaking and entering as the doors and windows were shut. She frantically searched the city but turned up nothing.

She went to the bird shop right when her shift began. She relayed her concerns about Victor doing a poor job, and the store owner said she would look into the matter. After she left, Tiara asked the birds if they knew where Uhu was but they didn’t know anything. She tried to get the eagle in the shop to assist her, only for it to bump into Victor as he walked in. He accidentally let slip that when he tailed her home, he saw people who stole the bird and tracked them down to an abandoned house.

Tiara dragged him with her to check out the place. After some hesitation, Victor checked the front door only to be quickly dragged inside and captured. Tiara followed while calling out for her owl, alerting the residents. She managed to steal a gun and tried to free her owl, but not before the people noticed her. She learned that they are part of some cult, and that they weren’t quite human. A fight ensued, and she managed to free Uhu and Victor, who immediately ran away. She sustained some injuries, but finally escaped her attackers.

She stopped in an empty alleyway to catch her breath, where Uhu told her to wait before flying off. Then a mysterious figure approached her, saying she knows her brother. She handed her a business card for a bar where she could get help, then disappeared. Then Uhu returned with her pendant. Tiara went back to the bird shop, discovered that all the birds were gone, then locked up and headed to the bar.
